Local Conservationists Rescue Endangered Species in Berkshires

On April 25, local conservationists from the Berkshire Wildlife Trust successfully rescued a family of endangered Eastern Box Turtles from a construction site near Pittsfield. The turtles, a mother and three hatchlings, were relocated to a protected habitat in Lenox. “These turtles are a vital part of our ecosystem, and their survival is crucial,” said Dr. Emily Carter, lead biologist at the trust. The rescue operation, which involved collaboration with the Pittsfield Department of Public Works, highlights the ongoing efforts to protect Berkshire County’s biodiversity. Pittsfield High Baseball Team Secures Spot in State Championships

The Pittsfield High Generals baseball team clinched a spot in the MIAA State Championships with a dramatic 7-6 victory over Monument Mountain on April 24. Senior pitcher Jake Thompson struck out 10 batters, while junior outfielder Mia Davis hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. “This team has shown incredible resilience and teamwork,” said Coach Sarah Johnson. The Generals, now 14-2, will face Taconic High in their final regular-season game on April 29. The state tournament begins May 5, with Pittsfield seeded third in their division.

Pittsfield to Host Annual Spring Kite Festival

The Pittsfield Parks and Recreation Department will host the Annual Spring Kite Festival on May 3 at Clapp Park. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature kite-making workshops, a kite-flying contest, and food vendors offering local specialties. “It’s a wonderful way for families to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate spring,” said event organizer Tom Lee.
